New Delhi, Dec 5: Top opposition parties have attacked the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government of Uttar Pradesh for the Monday violence in the Bulandshahr district of the state following an incident of alleged cow slaughter. A police inspector and civilian were killed in the violence.

“In the regime of BJP, Uttar Pradesh is passing through an unfortunate time period of violence and lawlessness,” said Akhilesh Yadav, former Chief Minister and president of main opposition in the state Samajwadi Party.

Samajwadi Party:
“बुलंदशहर में पुलिस व ग्रामीणों के संघर्ष में स्याना कोतवाल सुबोध कुमार सिंह की मौत का समाचार बेहद दुखद है. भावपूर्ण श्रद्धांजलि. उप्र भाजपा के शासनकाल में हिंसा और अराजकता के दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण दौर से गुज़र रहा है.”

Bahujan Samaj Party:
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday blamed the Uttar Pradesh government for the violence in Bulandshahr which claimed two lives, saying the “lawlessness” in the state was a result of its “faulty and wrong policies”.

In a statement, the four-time Chief Minister said that government was now faced with the same mobocracy it inculcated to make political gains over the past many years.

She said Monday’s Bulandshahr mob violence, in which a police officer and a young man were shot dead, reflected that the state government had lost grip on rightwing Hindu cadres which earlier targeted only Dalits, backward castes and Muslims.

Mayawati said that announcing financial assistance to the victims’ families was not enough and sought assurance from the Adityanath government that such incidents won’t be repeated in the future.

Congress Party:
“बुलन्दशहर में पुलिस अधिकारी सुबोध सिंह की अराजक भीड़ द्वारा हत्या दर्दनाक और शर्मनाक है। मोदी-योगी राज में पुलिस का जब यह हाल है तो आम जनता कितनी दहशत में होगी।”

Aam Aadmi Party:
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday alleged that the law and order in Uttar Pradesh had “completely crashed”.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh demanded that the state government raise the financial assistance to the family of the police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh killed in Bulandshahr from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

Sanjay Singh alleged that the police were afraid of naming the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “lumpen leaders” in the FIR.

Sanjay Singh, who visited the family of the Inspector in Etah, said the BJP governments were systematically executing heinous crimes to unleash a sense of fear and to disrupt communal harmony.

Communist Party of India (Marxist):
Condemning the Bulandshahr violence in which a police Inspector and a civilian were killed, the CPI-M on Tuesday said it was planned to hike communal tensions ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

“We strongly condemn the brutal killing of police Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh by a mob in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh. Along with him an innocent bystander was also shot dead,” the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said in a statement.

“The sudden eruption of violent protests took place on the pretext of cow slaughter due to carcasses found in dubious circumstances in a village in Siana area. This fits in with the pattern of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindutva outfits instigating communal tensions,” it said.

“Such incidents are planned in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The communally provocative speeches being made by Chief Minister Adityanath have also created an atmosphere for the mobs to act with impunity,” it added.

The party demanded “firm action” against the perpetrators of the Monday violence and steps to ensure that no communal incidents occur.
