New Delhi, Dec 9: Scores of students of Jamia Millia Islamia university and residents of the Muslim-dominated locality took out a candle march in Jamia Nagar area of Delhi Saturday evening seeking justice for the slain police inspector of Bulandshahr Subodh Kumar Singh. Singh was killed during mob violence over alleged cow slaughter in the Uttar Pradesh district on Monday (Dec 3).

“We strongly condemn the killing of police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and demand a judicial probe to ensure stringent action against those anti-social elements who killed him. He was killed on duty. It is not just his killing, it is the murder of the Constitution,” said Jamia student Meeran Haider.

He also expressed concern on statements of political leaders restricting the probe to the alleged cow slaughter.

“Some people are saying that alleged cow slaughter will be probed first and then cop’s murder. I want to ask them if we have come to live in a time when human life has no value,” he said.

Day after the incident, the Uttar Pradesh government announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family of the slain cop. However, in an statement, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reportedly asked police to bring culprits of alleged cow slaughter to book but he remained silent on the killing of the cop. Two days back in Delhi, he told media persons that cop’s killing was an “accident”.

Several residents of Jamia Nagar also took part in the candle march.

“First Muslims were targeted, and now Hindus are being killed. The culprits have nothing to do with religion. Killing a person in the name of cow is nothing but terrorism,” said a local resident Shabana.
