Imam, His Wife Found Murdered In A Village In Haryana

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 9—A 36-year-old Imam of a mosque identified as Irfan and his 24-year-old wife Yasmin alias Meena, were found murdered in their one-room house adjacent to the mosque in Manik Majri village in Sonipat district on Friday.

The Muslim villagers came to know of the incident when they did not hear early morning or Fajr àzaan’ from the mosque loudspeaker.

A few Muslims, who went to the mosque for prayers regularly, found the couple lying in a pool of blood in their house when they went to the mosque.

While Imam’s body was on a cot with his clothes soaked in blood, his wife’s body was on the floor of the room.

Sonipat police, when contacted, said the couple was killed with sharp weapons.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitender Singh told media, “We have registered a case and started investigations”.

Villagers told media persons that the couple had no enmity with anybody in the village. However, there was some fight between two groups of the villagers on Thursday night and the couple had intervened to end the fight. According to villagers, one of the two groups had threatened the Imam.

The couples, according to police, were native of Mohali village of the neighboring Panipat district. They had got recently married.
