ED Kicks Of Process To Seize Property Of Jailed Kashmiri Leader Shabir Shah

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 6—Two months after the abrogation of article 370, Enforcement Directorate (ED) has decided to seize the property of incarcerated separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

ED has issued notice to Shah’s wife Bilquees Shah and two daughters–Sama Shabir and Sehar Shabir — asking them to vacate their residential house at Rawalpora Srinagar.

“Whereas, the immovable property described as land measuring three Kanals situated at survey number 444 & 445, Effandi Bagh, Rawalpora, Srinagar along with the building(s) constructed thereupon, in the name of Dr Bilquees Shah, Sama Shabir and Sehar Shabir, all residents of Effandi Bagh, Rawalpora, Srinagar have been provisionally attached under sub section (I) of section PMLA, 2002”, read the order issued by Rajesh Kumar Jain, deputy director of ED, Delhi Zone.

“Whereas, in compliance of provision contained under sub-section (4) of the section 8 of PMLA 2002, the undersigned is to take possession of the aforesaid property, which shall be at disposal of Enforcement Directorate till further orders.”

ED asked the Shah’s wife and two daughters to vacate the house within 10 days from the receipt of the notice.

“Now, therefore, Dr Bilquees Shah, Sama Shabir and Sehar Shabir of Effandi Bagh, Rawalpora, present owners/occupants of said property are hereby directed to vacate the said premises and handover the possession of the said property to the undersigned within ten days from the receipt of this notice”, it added.

Shah, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail, was arrested by ED in 2017. Shah’s eldest daughter Sama Shabir is presently pursuing law abroad. Shah’s wife is a prominent doctor working in Department of Health Services, J&K government.

Earlier, the residential house of incarcerated Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Syeda Aasiya Andrabi was also seized at Soura in Srinagar outskirts. Property of terror funding accused businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali was also seized.
