NEW DELHI, JANUARY 20—Hundreds of students and youth under the banner of “Youth Against CAA-NRC-NPR ” marched from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar Monday morning.

They were protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, couple of days ahead Supreme Court hears the different pleas challenging the constitutional validity of CAA.

The protesters urged the apex court to review the law as it affects the secular fabric of the country.

The march which was escorted by the Delhi Police, was inaugurated by former JNUSU President N Sai Balaji. Balaji led the march along with United Against Hate activist Umar Khalid and student leader Kanwalpreet Kaur. Slogans were raised saluting the sit-in protests at various parts of the country inspired by the protest gathering at Shaheen Bagh.

Ameen Sharaf, a protester from JNU said that it is high time that the student and youth of the nation stand together in the fight against the unconstitutional law. He also criticised the government move to silence voices of dissent by enforcing the National Security Act (NSA) in the national capital. Samata Kulkarni, a student of law at the Delhi University criticised the government of dividing the country in the name of religion. ” This is not the fight of any particular religion, but it’s the fight to defend constitutional values of the country”, She added. Balaji said that this is the fight to protect the ideals of the constitution and hoped that the Supreme Court of India will take the right decision.
