EC Refutes Allegations By AAP, Delhi Poll Turnout Stands At 62.59 %

NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 9— After an unprecedented waiting of more than 24 hours the completion of voting for the Delhi Assembly, the Election Commission has announced the final voter turnout. Dr Ranbeer Singh, the Chief Electoral Officer in a press conference at the office of the CEO told media persons that the percentage of final turn out of the voters stands at 62.59 per cent.

The current turnout is way lower than the turnout of the 2015 Assembly Elections but is about 2per cent more than the last Lok Sabha elections. The highest voter turnout was recorded in Ballimaran assembly constituency at 71.6 per cent while the lowest voter turnout was recorded in Delhi Cantonment at 45.4 per cent. The percentage of female voters cast their vote stands at 62.55per cent whereas 62.62 per cent is the percentage of male voters exercising their democratic franchise.

The constituencies where the Anti-CAA protests are active viz Okhla and Seelampur had a voter turnout of 58.84per cent and 71.22per cent respectively.

Reacting to the allegations of EVM tampering by AAP, EC refuted it saying those videos released were checked and it refers to the movement of reserved EVM’s and not polled ones. In reply to the queries on the late announcement of the voter turn out CEO told there was no delay in the announcement and they wanted to ensure that exact and accurate figures to come out.
