GORAKHPUR, MARCH 1—Dr. Shabistan Khan, wife of Dr. Kafeel Khan, has alleged that there is threat to the life of her husband lodged in Mathura Jail.

Dr. Khan was arrested on January 30 by UP police on charges of giving provocative speeches at Aligarh Muslim University in December 12, 2019.

He was given bail by a court in Aligarh on February 10 but was not released. On February 14, police slapped National Security Act (NSA) and since then, he is incarcerated in Mathura Jail.

In a letter to the Allahabad High Court chief justice, Shabista Khan alleged that the life of her husband is in danger.

“We went to meet him in Mathura jail. He told me that when he was brought to the jail after being arrested, he was not given food for five days straight. The barrack he is staying in is very small and around 100-150 people have been lodged there. His life might be in danger there,” she said in the letter.
