NEW DELHI—Campus Front of India (CFI) national general secretary Rauf Shareef was on Saturday arrested by the Enforcement Directorate from the Trivandrum International Airport when he was going to board an international flight.

CFI is the students wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI).

According to reports, his arrest was made under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). On December 3, ED had carried out searches at 26 locations across nine states at offices and residences of PFI office-bearers, probing money-laundering allegations against them.

Stating that the arrest of its general secretary is “outrageous”, CFI has given a call for nationwide protest.

The students body alleged that ED was working on behalf of BJP.

It alleged, “ED executes BJP’s order to intimidate students’ leaders and movements prelude to CAA-NRC implementation in January 2021”.

“We appeal for a nationwide protest against the custody and demand his immediate release. We urged the government to stop targeting activists and organisations who led historic CAA-NRC protest. We are not going to refrain from the cause. It is the hallucinations of BJP that the students draw back from fighting vendetta”, CFI said in a tweet.
