Supreme Court Says “No Ordinary Crime”, Refuses Ayurvedic Treatment to Asaram Bapu Outside Jail

NEW DELHI—Stating that the crime committed by religious guru Asaram Bapu is not an ordinary one, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Indira Banerjee, V Ramasubramanian and Bela M Trivedi on Tuesday refused to temporarily suspend his life sentence for medical treatment.

Asaram is serving a life sentence for the rape of a minor girl.

Dismissing Asaram’s petition, Justice Indira Banerjee remarked, “Sorry in this sort of a situation, taking an overall view. It’s not an ordinary crime at all”.

However, the apex court directed to provide all ayurvedic treatment to Asaram in jail, livelaw reported.
