SRINAGAR—Newly formed State Intelligence Agency (SIA) raided 16 locations, including `Jamiat-us-Saulihaat’ in the Marhama area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The raids were conducted in the Anantnag and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir and Bagh-e- Mehtab of Srinagar.

An SIA spokesman said based on intelligence inputs, the newly constituted State Intelligence Agency today carried out house searches of several members of the managing body of `Jamiat-us-Saulihat’ in Marhama.

“ The searches conducted under the authority of warrants issued by the court of law based on prima facie allegations that under a criminal conspiracy with the officials of the revenue department some Jamaat-e-Islami (Jammu and Kashmir) members using the direct and indirect influence they have because of their deep connections with the separatist and terrorist outfits especially Hizbul Mujahideen,” the spokesman said.

SIA said land measuring 35 Kanals was illegally transferred to `Jamiat-us-Saulihat’ in Marhama with the dishonest intention of bestowing proprietary rights to the institution in complete violation of the law.

The legal action was taken subsequent to registration and investigation of case FIR No.14/2021 U/S 468, 467, 120-B IPC, 13, 38 UA (P) Act of P/S Counter Intelligence Kashmir at Srinagar.

The houses of the suspects / other locations were searched in compliance with the search warrant obtained from the Court of Special Judge, Designated under the NIA Act, Srinagar. In addition, 16 special teams had been constituted for conducting searches simultaneously at these locations.

The search at every place was started at the first light of the day and could be completed only in the late afternoon. “Incriminating material such as documents, records, electronic gadgets having specific evidentiary value and bearing on the instant case were seized in the presence of the Executive Magistrates and other independent witnesses,” he said.

The spokesman said they are also looking into the allegations that funds have been raised by the institute in different ways for furtherance of alleged terrorist activities.

In February 2019, the centre banned the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) for five years for allegedly supporting “terrorist groups and being involved in the anti-national and subversive activities in the country”.

It was for the second time when Jamaat has been banned in the last 31 years of turmoil. Jamaat was banned in 1990, but its ban was revoked, and its leaders were released a few years later.
