NEW DELHI—A day after the Supreme Court granted interim bail, Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was released on Friday from Sitapur Jail after 27 months.
Former SP leader Shiv Pal Singh Yadav received him when Khan came out of the jail.
His family sources said that Khan was heading for Rampur.
It is, however, not know by what time he will reach Rampur.
Khan, along with his wife and son, had surrendered to the police in February 2020 in connection with a cheating case.
While his wife Tazeen Fatima got bail after 10 months, his son Abdullah Azam got bail after a year.
Despite being in jail, Azam Khan won the Rampur Sadar assembly seat for the 10th time in March 2022, defeating his BJP rival by over 55,000 and Congress candidate Nawab Kazim Ali Khan who lost his deposit.
Abdullah Azam also won from Suar seat.
