NEW DELHI—Communal clashes were reported today in Becongunj area near Yatimkhana in Kanpur in which six persons from the Muslim community were reported to have been injured.
Clashes took place, when Muslims after Friday prayers, took out a procession against the derogatory remarks by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Priophet Muhammad during a debate on Times Now news channel a few days ago.
While injured persons were admitted to hospital for treatment, over a dozen persons are reported to have been arrested by the police.
The clashes coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to parental village of President Ram Nath Kovind today.
According to a report of Hindustan Times, the clashes took place after police baton-charged the members of the minority community who were protesting the insulting remarks of the BJP leader.
According to HT report, some local Muslims had closed their shops and had taken out a procession when clashes broke out.
