Hate Crime: After SC Intervention, Police Register Case Against 4 Unknown Assailants For Beating Muslim Man

NEW DELHI—It took police 18 months to register an FIR against four unknown persons for attacking a 63-year-old Muslim man in Noida. For the record, police registered the FIR only when Supreme Court intervened.

On July 4, 2021, 63-year-old Kazim Ahmed, a resident of Zakir Nagar, Delhi, was thrashed by unknown men when he was waiting for a bus at Sector 37 of Noida. A car stopped and offered him a ride. However, all hell broke loose when they swooped down on Ahmed before throwing him out of the vehicle.

After 18 months, an FIR has been registered with the intervention of the Supreme Court.

Police registered the case of communal attack after the Supreme Court issued a notice to the DGP. Police have registered a case against 4 unknown youths in Sector 39 of Noida.

Noida police have registered a case under sections 323, 324, 504, 298, and 352 of IPC. This incident took place near the Sector 37 Botanical Metro Station under the jurisdiction of the Sector 39 police station.

At the time of the incident, the victim Kazim was waiting for a bus for Aligarh to attend his niece’s wedding. A car offered him a ride. However, three persons inside the car started beating him.

According to the victim, he was attacked with a screwdriver when they came to know that he was a Muslim. The accused started making lewd remarks and Kazim’s beard was also scratched several times.

 “Unidentified miscreants hurled abuses at him seeing his dress and identity.  Had their intention been to rob, they would have taken the money and thrown him out of the car. But they passed comments on my beard and attacked me with a screwdriver,” he said

Talking to India Tomorrow after the incident, he said: “The attackers dropped me on the road after 15 minutes in an inebriated condition.  With the help of a passerby, I went to the police station to file a report. However, the police did not register my FIR.”

After the incident, the victim made many serious allegations against the police. “FIR was not registered by the police against the unknown assailants, I was sent home after noting down my name and address. Police neither got first aid done nor took any information about the scene of the incident. They did not do anything to apprehend the attackers,” he said.

However, after this incident, he approached the Minority Commission and the court. Now a notice has been sent to the DGP from the Supreme Court. And a case was registered after one and a half years.
