NEW DELHI—Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has expressed concern over deteriorating social, political and economic conditions in the country.

These observations were made at a recent meeting of the JIH’s Central Advisory Council (CAC). CAC is the highest decision making body of the JIH.

“The growing hatred in society, narrowing scope of religious freedom, incidents of violence against minorities especially Muslims, increasing feelings of insecurity in places of worship, etc. have reached dangerous levels and are rapidly weakening the social fabric of the country,” the JIH said.

JIH, which is a prominent religio-cultural organisation of Indian Muslims, pointed out that “politics based on self-interest and communal hatred, the increasing role of money in politics, the growing influence of capitalists on national policies, and the increasing number of people with criminal background in politics, are constantly weakening the country.”

“The decline of democratic values in the country, undermining the autonomy of democratic institutions, and efforts to suppress dissent and freedom of opinion through misuse of government institutions have become commonplace and are adversely affecting the country’s reputation globally,” the Jamaat said.

The JIH said that the increasing economic disparity among the people, the concentration of the country’s wealth in a few hands, and the continuous increase in inflation and unemployment had exacerbated economic depression and dissatisfaction among the people of the country and different classes, especially the youth and farmers.

The CAC felt that the responsibility for solving these problems was with the government. It appealed to the people to actively participate in the ongoing elections and cast their vote in

It said that it was a fatal trend in a democracy not to provide a level playing field to opposition parties.

The CAC said that hate speeches and election narratives that created divisiveness among the people were in clear violation of the Constitution of India and the law of the land and are seriously harmful to the country.

Global peace under threat
Referring to the long-drawn war between Ukraine and Russia, and genocidal war of Israel against Palestinians in Gaza, the CAC observed that these developments had threatened global peace.

“The barbaric crimes that Israel is continuously committing against the Palestinian people have broken all previous records of cruelty and brutality,” the CAC said, adding Israel is, undoubtedly, guilty of the worst genocide in Palestine.

It expressed surprise over the Western countries supporting the Israeli aggression, and indifference of the Muslim countries towards the issue.

“Consequently, the most cruel and brutal character of Israel has come to the fore, which is unprecedented in the recent history of the world,” the CAC said.

Condemning the systematic genocide, the CAC urged the Western powern powers, especially the US, to immediately stop its support to Israel.

The CAC felt that the conflict would not remain restricted to Israel and Palestine but engulf the entire Middle East if the world power did not intervene to stop the war. It also asked the Government of India to use its influence in resolving the dispute.
