Varanasi, 11 April 2014: A collective of secularist individuals, known as All India Secular Forum, have released a statement warning the people of India against the rising danger of bigotry, communal divide, organized violence and hatred for sections of people in the country.

The statement warns that any attempt to homogenize India by the brute force of numbers will lead to permanent discord, perpetual violence and the ultimate disintegration of the entity we now recognize as India.

The group looks at the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, as not being “morally fit enough to lead the nation.” The statement goes on to call the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) an organization propagating the idea of India as a “Hindu Rashtra” or super identity that is trying to subsume all other religious and cultural identities.

The secularist group believes that “a person like Modi, who is a permanent source of anxiety and insecurity for very large sections of our society, cannot and should not be allowed to lead India.”
