Kerala Temple Tragedy: Muslim leaders grieved, ask cadres to help victims

New Delhi, April 12: Coming out of their religious fold, top leaders of eminent Muslim organizations have expressed deep sorrow over the Kerala temple fire tragedy which claimed around 100 lives on Sunday.

Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind offered “his heart felt sympathies towards the families of the deceased and those who were injured in the fire” that broke out in the Paravur Puttingal Devi temple.

Jamaat chief has instructed the Kerala unit of his organization “to play an active role in the relief and support to be offered to the injured and the families of the victims and hoped that the JIH Kerala cadre would visit the various hospitals in which the injured were being treated.”

Maulana Umari hoped that the concerned authorities would rethink about the use of potentially hazardous fireworks in crowded places of worship and devise ways in which such tragedies could be averted.

While expressing deep grief over the tragedy, Maulana Arshad Madani, President, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind said, “The incident is certainly extraordinary and very painful for us.”

In a press statement, Maulana Madani, who is in Austria for attending an international interfaith summit, said, “On humanitarian ground, we all should come forward to help the victims.”

Popular Front of India General Secretary M Mohammed Ali Jinnah has also expressed shock over the tragedy “conveyed deep condolence to relatives of the dead and hoped that all injured persons will recover soon.”

He also asked cadres of his organization “to extend all possible help and consolation to the victims as well as to the families of those who had died.”
