Aligarh, April 25: An emergency meeting of top officials of Aligarh Muslim University including all Deans, which was presided over by Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah to take stock of the campus situation, on Sunday decided that a high level probe by an “external agency” should be instituted to probe Saturday night’s campus violence which left two students dead.

The Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Shah said that this step had become necessary to identify those elements which “instigated” the violence.

The meeting was attended by Deans of Faculties, Principals of Colleges and local elected members of the Executive Council.

The Vice Chancellor also convened another meeting with the Provosts of halls of residence and wardens in which it was decided to regulate the timings of internet and WiFi services available in the various Halls of residence. This step is being taken to discourage students from wasting time on frivolous activities during night hours. Under this measure internet accessibility will not be available in the Halls of residence from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the morning.
