New Delhi, August 20: In his famous style, Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Kanhaiya Kumar has once again criticized Sangh Parivar for the growing communal polarization in the country. In his one hour speech at an event to celebrate Independence Day here last week, Kumar, who was arrested – now out on bail – for allegedly raising some anti-national slogans at his university touched various issues from communal segregation to terrorism to rights of common people.

Communal segregation
Kumar condemned communal segregation taking place in different parts of the country due to phobia.

“I often think why every Muslim from Bihar lands in Batla House locality in Delhi. I ask them if they don’t get other place to live in. They say they try to live at other localities also in Delhi but could not live – either they are disturbed or their neighbours,” said Kumar.

“This phobia (segregation) has been spread in the entire society. And this phobia has pushed the issues of poverty, inflation and unemployment much behind. Terrorism has become the biggest issue,” he said adding that in the name of terrorism, issues of poverty and unemployment have been put on the back.

Terrorism
“Suppose you stopped terrorism and you also defeated ISIS. Will this fill our belly? Will this resolve the issue of our unemployment? I do never support violence. I do not support terrorism. Rather, I say that whoever is terrorist – be he in full pajama (Muslim) or half pant (Sanghi) – both should be sent to jail. I say it again and again,” said Kumar

JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar came down heavily on Sangh Parivar on the issue of nationalism.

Anti-national Vs Nationalism
“I also said in JNU that whoever is speaking against the nation, they must be arrested and put behind bars. Do the same with me if I have spoken any such thing – if you think so, but the law does not think so and I can’t think so because I have not said any such thing.”

“I will speak against Modi and I will speak against Sangh but I will not speak against the country because the country is not their jagir,” said Kumar.

“This country belongs to Hindus as much as to Muslims, to the poor as much as to the rich. There is a direct fight between those who have occupied powers and those who have been deprived for thousands of years. And we will win this battle. We want our rights. We will take our rights at any cost. I want to make it clear,” Kumar said.

He said that he is not bothered about allegations made against him because he has not spoken anything against the country.

“I do not bother and care whatever allegations – terrorism, anti-national, Pakistan Zindabad – you fabricate. I do care when people are killed on the basis of castes. I bother when women are not allowed to come out of home. I do bother when farmers commit suicide. I am disturbed when a young Muslim is kept in jail for 14 years despite being innocent,” said he.

He said he will continue to speak for the rights of common people and he does not care if it is dubbed as anti-national.

“If you think that raising voice for the rights of common people in the country and fighting for their rights is anti-national then I boldly declare I am anti-national. I do not bother because I do not accept your concept of nationalist and anti-national. In my view, all living in this country – whether they are Hindu or Muslim, whether they believe in Ram or Allah or whether they don’t believe in any – all are Indians. And to stand up for their democratic rights is our first responsibility,” said Kumar amidst huge applauds from the crowd in Jamia Nagar area of Delhi on 16th Aug.
