Curfew imposed in four police station areas after midnight on Friday has not been lifted yet

Jaipur, Sep 10: About 48 hours have passed since the youth was killed in the police firing in the city Friday night, his body has been lying in the mortuary as his family and local community elders are not allowing post-mortem – they are demanding suspension of Ramganj police station officials and announcement of monetary compensation by the state government first.

Mohammad Raees alias Adil was killed when police opened fire at a crowd who was protesting against alleged thrashing of a couple outside the Ramganj police station Friday night. The crowd torched various vehicles and pelted stone on the police personnel.

According to media reports, during a routine check-up in the city on Friday evening, police tried to stop a bike rider and when he did not stop, the police hit the pillion rider who was a woman and took the couple to the local police station. As the news spread, a huge crowd gathered at the police station to seek release of the couple.

To press with the demands, leaders of Rajasthan Muslim Forum, an umbrella body of Muslim organizations, held a press conference with family members of the victim her on Sunday evening. They demanded suspension of the police personnel involved in the firing, Rs one crore as compensation to the victim family and government job to one family member.

It is said that the family along with a delegation of local community leaders has met district administration officials with the demands but have got no assurance so far.

After the violence, curfew was imposed in Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Galta Gate and Ramganj police station areas of the city after midnight on Friday. The curfew continues till this report is being published.
