NEW DELHI—The harassment of Advocate Mehmood Pracha, who is fighting several cases of Delhi riot victims particularly those linked with police having been part of the mob, continued unabated. He was called to Chanakyapuri Police station on Tuesday for questioning in a case regarding Pracha and his supporters holding a demonstration outside the Pakistan Embassy against the victimisation of minorities and Dalits in Pakistan on October 2 this year.
Speaking to India Tomorrow, he said that there was nothing in the case but a strategy to harass him so that he gave up the cases of Delhi riots. “The strategy is simple. Harass me so that I don’t fight cases of Delhi riot victims”, he said.
But he said that he was not going to budge from his principles and would continue to extend legal help to the victims come what may. “It’s a duty of every Ambedkarite to give legal help to everyone in need. I just do my duty towards any person who I feel is being oppressed by powerful. We all do that nothing special. Jai Bhim !”, he tweeted.
After coming out of the Chanakyapuri Police station, he tweeted saying he was not scared after one hour of unnecessary harassment.
“Manuwadi Mentality can never scare Ambedkarwadis”, he said.
“After one half hour of unnecessary harassment I am still not scared. Pl give up on trying to scare an Ambedkarwadi. Manuwadi Mentality can never scare Ambedkarwadis.Take your best shot we will save Constitution of India at all cost from both inside and outside dangers. Jai Bhim”.
After his interrogation at Chanakyapur, Pracha went to meet the victims of northeast Delhi pogrom in Mustafabad, one of the worst affected areas during February 2020 communal riots. “We will not stop till the main conspiracy is unearthed and main brain behind are brought to justice”, he asserted
The office of Pracha was raided by sleuths of the Delhi Police Special Cell for 15 hours on December 25, with police alleging that Pracha had used fake/forged documents to seek bail for his client and police wanted to recover it. The raid was conducted on the basis of a search warrant procured from a magisterial court.
However, the raid invited condemnation from lawyers and social and human rights activists, including the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Bar Council of Delhi and the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
