Western Hypocrisy: Global Mercenaries in Ukraine Termed “Volunteers” & Muslim Defenders as “Terrorists”

NEW DELHI—About 20,000 international “volunteers” or what could be called “mercenaries” have reached Ukraine to reinforce the Ukrainian forces and fight against the invading Russian forces.

Most of these mercenaries are from European countries. This has been revealed to the media by Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kulbera, the highest-ranking diplomat of Ukraine.

However, it is not clear if the mercenaries have been sent by private military contractors at the behest of the European powers or hired by Ukraine.

If the mercenaries are being used, it can be a long-drawn war like Afghanistan. It may not end so soon.

While the US and European powers have declared to provide Ukraine funds, arms, and ammunition against a Russian attack, they have not sent their troops.

But why should the Western powers allow their fellow citizens to fight even voluntarily or in exchange for the money they would be paid for their military services?

The Western powers have refused to send NATO troops saying Ukraine is not a NATO member.

Most European countries, as well as the US, have private military contractors. Most of the personnel working with these contractors are retired military personnel having experience in handling lethal weapons.

Reports say that these military contractors have been approached to provide their services to protect people and their assets in Ukraine. Among those who have approached them include NGOs and human rights organizations.

But military contractors say that they only provide security services, and their people don’t play the role of military combatants. The US and NATO countries had hired the services of private military contractors in the Iraq war and other countries during a military conflict like Yugoslavia. Personnel belonging to private military contractors are known to have indulged in the mass killing of civilians in Iraq and other countries.

Will these “volunteers” or mercenaries not fight if the assets they guard come under attack by Russian forces? So, the line between the role of security guards and military combatants will be blurred when they are attacked. They will undoubtedly retaliate as they have the training in handling sophisticated lethal weapons.

How can private military firms be differentiated from terror organizations?

When volunteers belonging to some Muslim organizations from Arab countries went to Afghanistan to fight on the side of the Taliban, they were called terrorists by the US and European leaders and their national media. As a result, the organizations they were associated with were called terror organizations and declared outlawed.

The US and other world powers also linked the Muslim volunteers with their religion, thus giving a bad name to Islam.

But the same leaders and the US and European media now describe the private fighters from mostly the Christian world as “volunteers”, a word that carries an aura of respect around it. They don’t call them terrorists though there is hardly any difference in activities of the two sets of fighters.

While Muslim volunteers from Arab countries fought in support of the Taliban, the Christian volunteers from Christian countries are currently fighting on the side of Ukraine.

The primary job of the Christian volunteers in Ukraine is to fight the Russian soldiers directly or indirectly while carrying out their assignments.

Are the changes in the overall attitude of the Western world about Muslim volunteers and Christian volunteers influenced by the religion and race of the two sets of people? For example, those who went to Afghanistan to support the Taliban were Muslims, and others arriving in Ukraine to fight against Russia, are Christians and belong to White Race.

Racism and religious prejudices were also perceptible from the remarks of the Western journalists in their coverage of the Ukraine-Russia war and comments of some of the European politicians.

CBS correspondent Charlie D’Agata, reporting from Kyiv, said he could not believe that the Russian invasion was taking place in a European city. He said that Ukraine is not Afghanistan and Iraq. “It is relatively civilized and European, too,” he said in his report. It means only Europeans are civilized, not Muslims, Arabs and Africans. And it also meant that no one could invade Europe. It is only the right of Europeans to attack non-European countries.

Reporting about refugees pouring in from Ukraine, NBC correspondent Kelly Cobeilla said Ukraine was not Syria. “They are not refugees from Syria; these are refugees from Ukraine…They are Christian, they are White, they are very similar,” she said in one of her news reports.

Pope Francis kept silent when the US and its allies attacked Muslim countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria.

However, the Pope visited the Russian embassy in the Vatican and expressed his concern over the invasion of Ukraine.

Pope’s visit to an ambassador was an unprecedented event. Why this duplicity? Were Muslims invaded by Western powers, not human beings, or lesser human beings than Ukrainians?

Pope as a religious leader, should have shown similar concerns about the killings in Muslim countries by his co-religionists and used his spiritual influence over them to stop the destruction of Muslim lands. Unfortunately, Pope disappointed the Muslims.

Arguments in favour of the Western attack on Muslim countries are that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and Afghanistan harboured terrorists and had become a threat to the world. Russia also claims it felt threatened by Ukraine, which was associating with NATO to amass weapons that could have been used against Russia.

However, no argument can justify the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the mass killing of Ukrainian people, nor the military invasion of Muslim countries by Western powers on the pretext that they harboured terrorists.

  1. Excellent analysis. Keep it up IndiaTomorrow.
Western hypocrisy is being exposed as the so called ‘war’ is dragging!
The war is civilisational, cultural and racial too.
White Supramascists presume they have birth right to ransack the world but none should come to their own lands fighting a war?

  2. Amonsgt those contractors as you call them are many many regular men and women with no military history expect from mandatory army training. If they will be paid by Ukrainian goverment, that I dont know. Also there are many volunteers form Czech republic (atheist country), Brazil and Portugal (not White) or Israel (not christian). Also Chechnya muslims who fled during Chechnya second war are fighting for Ukraine.

  3. Next: You said pope Francis kept silent when west invaded Libya, Iraq and Syria. He is a pope from March 2013. Libya happened in 2011, Iraq in 2003 way before he was a Pope. Syria happened in 2014 where west fought against ISIL forces. In 2017 there was first strike against Syrias goverment forces by USA. Just google Pope condemns attacks in Syria and you get like 200 results. You my friend arent telling the truth and are no journalist of any kind.
